How does it work?

Setup your class in minutes

Add your students to BrainNook in a few minutes: simply copy and paste their names from your class roster.

Gather performance data quickly and painlessly

As your students play BrainNook, our system gathers performance data for each student behind the scenes. No boring quizzes to take, or worksheets to complete; students think they're simply playing a fun online game with their friends!

Motivate your students through friendly classroom competition

Your students will love competing with their classmates to reach the top of the class leaderboard!

Gain insight into your students' performance through Common Core-aligned reports

View detailed performance data for each student to understand the areas in which they need practice. Drill down to see information by topic, game, grade or subject.

Easily set customized goals for each student

Set assignments for each student to help them practice their weak areas. Quickly find games that map to almost any topic you're teaching in the classroom. You can even let your students' parents know about each assignment for some extra motivation!

Hand out beautiful achievement awards

Print weekly achievement awards to recognize your top performers and motivate your entire class. Put them up in class, or give them to students to take home!

Social Interaction and Safety in BrainNook

BrainNook provides extensive controls to ensure that your students stay safe while on the site. We are committed to providing a safe and friendly environment in which kids can learn while playing with their friends.

Messaging only between friends

Messaging only between friendsMessages can be exchanged only between friends. Your students can decline any friend request someone sends them, preventing that player from messaging them. If they receive an inappropriate message from a friend, they can "un-friend" that player to prevent that player from messaging them again.

Teacher Control of Friends Outside the Classroom

Friends outside the classroomTeachers can control whether their students are allowed to make friends with players outside their classroom. If teachers choose to disable outside friends, their students can only make friends and exchange messages with their classmates. This allows teachers to ensure that their students are not messaging players they do not know in real life.

Reviewing Chat Logs

Reviewing chat logsTeachers can review a log of all messages sent or received by their students at any time. This allows them to make sure that their students are using the chat feature in a responsible manner.

Safe Chat

Safe chatEven when two players are already friends with each other, they can only type messages to each other using a set of approved words, which prevents them from revealing their real name, physical or email address, or any personal information.

Disabling Typed Chat for Specific Students

Disabling ChatTeachers can even turn off typed chat for specific students who may be behaving inappropriately. When this setting is enabled, students can only send public messages by selecting from a set of pre-selected phrases from a menu; they cannot type in chat messages, and they cannot send one-to-one messages to friends.

Friend List Review

Report to Moderator buttonBrainNook gives teachers transparency into their students' list of friends. Teachers can review any student's friends from the student list screen in their teacher account. They can even delete friends they consider inappropriate.

Report to Moderator

Report to Moderator buttonAny message can be reported to a moderator by simply clicking on the "M" button displayed with the message; we review all reports we receive, and ban players who are behaving inappropriately.

Blocking Players

Block Player buttonPlayers can also block another player from contacting them entirely by clicking on the "B" button displayed along with that player's information. This will make it impossible for that other player to contact them again.
